Almost a year old, Two Hurricanes by castaway was a favorite of mine for a long time. When I re-read it now the first stanza still takes my breath away. In the last when the poet writes, "...and it was there where the two storms dwelled, as one" the reader is caught within the eye of a poets "magnificent miracle". (Selected by +jsenn)

Literature Text

Two hurricanes
spinning carelessly
reached their whisping tendrils of vapour
across the battered heavens
and painted a surreal spectacle
with fierce ejaculations of electric light,
of shadows that danced like pagan spirits
through waving wooded giants.

The nearer they came together
the more they anxiously clamoured
as they felt each other's presence
'til their fingers brushed unexpectedly
and nature did hold its breath.

(Were they,
their fingers
-it seemed to ask-
two poles of a magnet,
or lock and key?)

And still the great mother
impatiently waited
while danced the raging storms
their hands touching hesitantly
gazing across through pensive eyes.

Then
as though a great being
had spoken an answer,
like two rams on a treacherous cliff,
they collided in a violent embrace
churning together
'till two storms were one
that bellowed.

And in the middle
of this magnificent miracle
there was an eye
where silence remained constant
and peace could be found
and it was there where the two storms dwelled,
as one.
The purest of human emotions has (no matter how chaotic its manifestation), an eye, a center, in which we find peace. The purest of human emotions tell us, reminds us, that we are human, and that we are more than a bundle of firing neurons...and it is this that reminds us to be happy. We are something more...and we manifest this in our emotions.

"'til their fingers brushed unexpectedly

thats stunning. really making the ordinary into the epic. i think the sexual overtones are on only one level and this is representative of emotions. you cannot lay love down as just lust... or just kindness... for example.

hmm.. i make.. no sense.
really great work!
